Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover & Volvo are to invest ?1bn in the UK into the development of more environmentally friendly vehicles.

The plans include a CO2 emission reduced Ford Focus that can get up to 70 mpg.

Volvo and Saab achieved top scores for every model tested by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre.

The tests were carried at at Thatcham on behalf of the International Insurance Whiplash Prevention Group (IIWPG).

“We are very pleased that the Volvo seats have performed in line with our expectations from our own tests and standards. This is one of several results that confirm Volvo has the right approach to help reduce neck injuries in rear impacts.”
