My 156 2.0 broke down with only 41,000 miles on the clock, it was the gear tensioner which resulted in the cam belt coming off. Alfa recommend this be changed at 72,000 miles but recommend those on the continent i e Italy have this done at 72,000 kilometres, big dif. The repairs cost me just under ?1000. Not happy as Alfa were aware of this and replaced this part with an aluminium version on new models. The older version had teeth that looked like they were glued on.
